A 1-year-old boy was  killed Monday night when a vehicle hit the child while leaving a parking space.

According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, 58-year-old Peggy Ward of Clay Center was driving a 2004 Chevy Tahoe that had been backed into a parking space at Huntress Park ball field Parking Lot in Clay Center.

When pulling out of the parking space, the SUV struck Kael Dame of Clay Center.

The toddler was taken to Clay County Medical Center where he died.

The accident occurred just after 8pm Monday night.
