Mike Reid is this weeks BANK VI Hero of the Week.

Mike is the general manager of The Salina Bombers professional football team and is partially responsible for bringing arena football to Salina. Reid was part of the coaching staff before stepping into his managerial role. Prior to his affiliation with Salina Bombers Football, he spent several years working with area teens in our school system.

A lot of Mike’s time with the team is spent raising money. The funds raised are used to sustain arena football in Salina and ensure this wholesome entertainment and family fun can remain here for years to come.
As general manager of the team, Reid also wanted to ensure the Bomber athletes didn’t just play football in Salina; but got involved in our community, as well. One of the outreaches orchestrated by Reid and his athletes is preventing bullying in our school system. Reid and his players have visited twelve different schools over the past two years to talk about this subject. They have also discussed bullying with area youth at the mall and Walmart. According to Reid, many of the teams outreaches are targeted to kids because a lot of them look up to athletes.

“We just want to keep these kids going in the right direction,” said Reid.

Along with bully prevention, The Salina Bombers have also taken part in the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake. During the off season, Reid donates a lot of his spare time volunteering in our community.
