Several charges including attempted first degree murder have been requested against a 34-year-old Salina man, in connection with a shooting around 12:30 Monday afternoon at an apartment complex in north Salina.

Captain Mike Sweeney said Raymond Isom was found hiding in an enclosed back porch of a home at 713 N. 4th, just a short time after allegedly shooting 20-year-old Melchizedek Fitzgerald twice in the abdomen at 821 N 2nd during a confrontation.

Fitzgerald was taken to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment, then transferred to a Wichita hospital with non-life threatening wounds.

Sweeney said a Kansas Highway Patrol K-9 found a 9mm handgun underneath a porch of a home at 732 N. 3rd. The gun had been stolen in a recent residential burglary.

Both the Highway Patrol and Saline County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the early investigation of the case.

In addition to the attempted first degree murder charge, other requested charges include aggravated battery, aggravated burglary, criminal trespassing, criminal discharge of a firearm, and possession of stolen property.

Captain Sweeney said the investigation continues.
