A Salina couple wanting to do a good deed, wind up the victim of a theft.
Lt. Gerald Shaft with the Salina Police Department said a 62-year-old Salina man and his wife were coming back to Salina from Wichita Monday afternoon, and picked up a Hispanic male hitchhiker who spoke very little English along I-135 near Park City,and brought him to Salina.
The couple took man to a restaurant for a meal, then him home for a shower, gave him clean clothes, and let him sleep on their couch.
The homeowner who was holding a .44 caliber black powder cap and ball pistol fell asleep in the same room where the man was sleeping. When the homeowner woke up he found the man and the pistol gone.
The value of the pistol is placed at $600.
