Amanda Soderberg Michaelis is this week’s BANK VI Hero of the Week!
Michaelis is Executive Director of The Salina Area United Way. Since coming on board a year ago, she has helped implement some different programs to help strengthen our community.
Examples of these programs include the “community conversations” she has helped orchestrate. Small groups of Salina citizens now meet twice per month and share ideas about improving our city. Since these conversations started, three hundred citizens have taken part. Michaelis and her staff then take this information to those responsible for economic development in Salina and even share the information with local politicians.
Another United Way outreach in Salina will take place September 26th. Their goal this day will be to make 50,000 macaroni and cheese meals to be distributed throughout Saline County. Currently, around 15% of Saline County citizens deal with hunger.
The Salina Area United Way’s goal is to strengthen our community in three core areas; education, income and health.
“It’s about turning outward into the community and being part of the community,” says Michaelis.
