A 21-year-old Salina man was arrested Wednesday night, after a police officer witnessed a man and another driver drag racing at the intersection of Ohio and Magnolia.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney said an officer driving east in on E. Magnolia Road, noticed two vehicles westbound at the intersection take off at a high rate of speed.

The officer located a white 2003 Acura driven by Gustavo Hernandez-Flores, and tried to stop it, but Hernandez-Flores did not stop, and the officer pursued the car on several residential streets off before losing it.

A witness spotted the car getting on to I-135 at Magnolia, going northbound.

Another police office located the car in the area of 9th and State, followed the car to the 100 block of N, 7th, where Hernandez-Flores, got out of the car and ran.

A 15-year-old girl who was in the car, also ran. Both were caught quickly.

Hernandez-Flores was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges include fleeing and eluding, racing on a highway, speeding,reckless driving, driving while suspended, a habitual violator, obstruction, and endangering a child.
