Why construct a new Criminal Justice Complex?
• Current Jail capacity 192 beds – September 18 prisoner total 281 (213 male, 68 female)
• County Attorney’s office out of space
• Possible addition of another Judge and court facilities
• Safety in transportation of prisoners and separation from the public during transportation
• Safety in County Attorney’s area for victim and witnesses
• Enhanced space for public called as potential jury members
• Enhanced safety and efficiency having all agencies in one building
What will the new Criminal Justice Complex include?
• Addition to the existing Jail
• County Attorney offices
• District court clerk
• Court room facilities
• Court services
• Community Corrections
• Parking
What will the Criminal Justice Complex cost and how will it be paid for?
The estimated Complex cost is $46.5 million. Saline County will issue 15 year General Obligation Sales Tax Bonds to be retired from the revenue of a one half cent (1/2 ₵) countywide retailer’s sales tax.
• Projected 1/2 ₵ Sales Tax Revenue (5 YR Average) – $5,079,038
• Estimated Annual Principal and Interest Requirement – $4,105,702
BASED ON ABOVE, THE DEBT WILL BE RETIRED IN 12-13 YEARS AND THE SALES TAX TERMINATED. INCLUDING THE PROPOSED 1/2 ₵, SALINE COUNTY’S SALES TAX WILL BE LOWER THAN 6 OF THE STATES 10 LARGEST CITIES
