David Cooper is this week’s BANK VI Hero of the Week.

As the USD 305 grant writer, he has been instrumental in obtaining the funding for numerous projects to improve our schools. An example of his work includes the recent grants to create walking trails at five Salina grade schools.

“It feels good to do something that improves the lives of our children. As an English major, I was always interest in reading, writing and doing research. This really gives me a way of applying those talents and making a visible difference”. Cooper stated.

Cooper has also been on the board of the Castle Project since it’s beginning. This non-profit, based at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, provides free lunch and a supervised activity for low income children during the summer when school lunches are not available and their parents are at work. He is also on the film selection committee at The Salina Art Center Cinema and writes the movie reviews that appear in the Cinema’s monthly brochures and weekly newspaper advertisements.

David Cooper is a selfless and conscientious person whose efforts over the past twenty years has made Salina a better place to live.
