An investigation into a forgery case leads to the arrest of a Salina man for shoplifting, possession of marijuana and methamphetamine,and aggravated child endangerment.

Salina Police Captain Chris Trocheck said 42-year-old Derek Weltmer was arrested Saturday afternoon after being stopped for shoplifting at the Salina Walmart.

In a check of his vehicle they found stolen property, along with small amounts of marijuana and meth, and drug paraphernalia. A 5-year-old boy who was with Weltmer when he was arrested was placed into protective custody.

Police had working on a case since October where Weltmer had allegedly stolen checks from a family member.
