Marjorie F. Geisendorf passed away on Christmas morning, 2014 in Prairie Village, KS, where she had recently moved from Salina, KS, to be closer to her daughter, Judy and family. She was 98.

Marjorie was born on a farm outside Wichita, KS, on Valentine’s Day 1916, the daughter of Jake and Lyda Frey. She attended grade and high school in Valley Center, KS, graduating in 1934. While in high school, she lettered in basketball and tennis. Marj went to Business Preparatory School in Wichita and upon graduation worked as a secretary for Travelers Insurance.

She married James Geisendorf on February 25, 1939 in Wichita. They were married 73 years. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Lyda; her husband, Jim, and son Jack. Her twin sister, Merlene and younger brother, Dale also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy and husband, Charles Adams of Mission Hills, KS; her grandchildren, Brad Adams and wife Megan of Montclair, New Jersey and Kelly Loyd and husband, Steve of Kansas City; two great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Gibson Adams both of New Jersey.

At the end of World War II, Marj and Jim moved to Salina where Jim worked for the Rush Smith Funeral Home. They purchased the business in 1959. Marj worked alongside Jim until they sold the funeral home twenty-seven years later.

She was very involved in the Salina community. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter BW for fifty years; the First Presbyterian Church for 70 years; she participated in many local activities and was especially proud of being one of the founders of the Salina Charities Golf Tournament, in 1978. Marj took great pleasure in knowing it was still going strong.

She was a great cook and enjoyed making candy as gifts for friends at Christmas time. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by all.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, at First Presbyterian Church, 308 S. Eighth, with the Rev. Donald Schroeder officiating. Private family entombment will be in the Williamsburg Mausoleum in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.
