County Commission Votes to Eliminate Department Heads

The Salina County Commission voted to eliminate four department heads at their Tuesday meeting.

Tuesday was the last day for County Administrator Rita Deister, Road and Bridges Director Dave Novak and David Neal, Director of Planning and Zoning. Also, the Director of the Saline County Health Department will not be replaced. Bronson Farmer, the previous Health Department Director resigned in October.

County Commissioner John Price stated that the cuts would save approximately $450,000 annually.

County Chairman Randy Duncan and Commissioner John Price voted to do away with the department heads. Commissioner Jim Gile voted against the dismissals.

The county commission will expand from three to five this January.
