After an offensive shoot-out last weekend in Wichita, the Salina Bombers had to gut out a defensive battle to get a 34-27 victory over the Texas Revolution.
The game started slow offensively after the Bombers grabbed an early 7-0 lead on a 21 yard touchdown run by quarterback Chris Coffin. The Revolution would come back on a 9-0 run and take a 2 point lead to close out the 1st quarter.
The Bombers would take a 17-12 lead into halftime after Coffin threw a pass that was caught over the wall by wide receiver Anthony Parks.
Points remained at a premium in the 3rd quarter but the Bombers found a way to score, using offensive lineman Ed Prince on a tackle eligible play. Prince caught the TD from Coffin and the Bombers would take a 31-19 lead with 14:57 left in the game.
Ira Autrey would stop a potential scoring drive for the Revolution with his first interception of the year. The Bombers were able to add a 23 yard field goal from Thomas Frevert and take a 34-19 advantage with just 1:45 left in the game.
The Revolution would score quickly and add a 2 point conversion with 1:14 left, but an onside kick attempt would be recovered by the Bombers DeWayne Autrey. The Revolution were out of timeouts and the Bombers were able to run out the clock.
The Bombers (2-0) will travel to Nebraska to face the Omaha Beef (0-2) next Saturday at Ralston Arena.
