In the midst of their third season in franchise history and making the playoffs in the first two years, one might say the Salina Bombers have “Been there, Done that”. That’s not necessarily true as the Bombers have yet to visit the Omaha Beef. That will change today.
The Bombers, currently in first place in the CIF North Division, will play the Omaha Beef for just the second time ever today and the first time in Omaha. While the Bombers have started 2-0, the Beef are 0-2 and looking for their first win of the season.
The interesting dynamic of this game revolves around the offensive side of the ball. Bombers quarterback Chris Coffin and wide receivers Jared Elmore, OJ Simpson and Anthony Parks all played for the Beef last season.
In nine games, Coffin was at or near the top of the league in most passing categories. His three main targets were as well. Here is what the four current Bombers did for Omaha in 2014:
Chris Coffin: 200 completions in 317 attempts. 52 Touchdowns with 15 interceptions and 1,971 yards
Jared Elmore: 66 receptions for 632 yards and 23 Touchdowns
Anthony Parks: 49 receptions for 624 yards and 19 Touchdowns
OJ Simpson: 58 receptions for 471 yards and 7 Touchdowns
All of that production is now wearing Bomber green and black.
Omaha opened the 2015 season with a road loss at Sioux City, 62-13. The Beef opened at home last week in a loss to the Wichita Force, 45-42. This will be the first of two games on a North Division road trip for Salina as they will travel to Sioux City next week.
The game is scheduled for a 7:05 pm start tonight from Ralston Arena in Ralston, Nebraska. Salina Bomber pregame starts at 6:30 pm and can be heard on several different outlets presented by Eagle Radio.
