Saline County couple avoids being victims in Publishers Clearing House Scam

Saline County Sheriffs OfficeA northeast Saline County Couple avoids being victims of a scam after receiving a letter claiming they had won $2.5 million dollars in the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.

Saline County Sheriff’s Captain Roger Soldan said the letter arrived in the mail on April 2nd, along with a check for $6,870 that they needed to deposit in their bank account. They called a phone number in the letter and were told that after they deposited the check in the bank, they were to send $5,900 to cover the cost of fees associated with winning the sweepstakes.

They put the check in the bank, but did not send any money out, and were told by their bank the check was not good. They made their report to the Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.
