The BANK VI Hero of the Week is Professor Ken Hokada.
Hakoda was chosen for his work with the Salina Symphony, Salina Youth Symphony and for his work with the musical department at Kansas Wesleyan University.
Hakoda is the music director for the Salina Symphony Orchestra and helps with the artistic side of the symphony. He also is conductor for the top group in The Salina Youth Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Hakoda also assists at The Salina Community Theater and has helped with their productions of Mary Poppins, Shrek, Le Mis and the upcoming, West Side Story.
Hakoda has been with Kansas Wesleyan University for twelve years and currently serves as Music Department Chair. He teaches choir and additional classes that are part of the curriculum for those who major in music.
Hakoda stated, “Art and music are critical elements in the human life. If you look at cultures around the world, they all have some form of music that exists. Have you ever spent a day without hearing some form of music?”
