A 4-year-old boy playing in the cab of a pickup leads to his mother being charged with child endangerment.

Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney said officers were sent to the area of 12th street and Morrison around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, after someone called to report a young child alone in a pickup with the keys in the pickup.

After getting the boy out of the pickup, it took officers nearly an hour to make contact with 39-year-old Wendy Jeffery, who was asleep in her home.  Two large dogs also kept officers away from the front door of the home.

The boy was placed into protective custody and Jeffery was booked into the Saline County Jail on a charge of child endangerment and released on bond later Tuesday evening.
