The Salina Police Department is partnering with the Salina Parks and Recreation Department in hosting the annual Lakewood Fishing Derby in cooperation with Conklin Cars, Ace Sporting Goods, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Mahaska Bottling (Pepsi), Fishing’s Future, Salina F.O.P. Lodge #68 and 99KG.
Kids will be able to fish with Salina Police Officers, Saline County Sheriff Deputies, Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers and Officers with the Kansas Wildlife and Parks. Kids will compete in several competitions, including a casting contest and the biggest fish caught in each age category (8 and under, 9-11 and 12-14 years of age) where prizes will be awarded to the winners. Drawings will be held for many other great prizes. Directly following the weigh-in, the event will conclude with Salina Police Chief Brad Nelson roasting hot dogs for the kids, along with chips and Pepsi Products.
The event takes place on Saturday, June 6th from 8:30 a.m. until Noon.
Registration for this free event is through the Salina Parks and Recreation Department. Kids 9 years of age and under require adult supervision.
