Equipment Issue Blamed for Power Outage

PowerOutage01Westar Energy says that equipment issues caused a power outage in Salina late Tuesday night.

A company representative tells the Salina Post that a switch malfunction in a power transformer caused nearly 800 customers in Salina to lose power just after 11:30 p.m. Most of the outages were in an area from 9th and Morrison to Crawford and Montrose.

Westar believes the malfunction may have been caused by thunderstorms in the area.

Power was restored to effected customers just before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
