
SECOND UPDATE: Salina Fire officials employee at Salina Iron and Metal Company, 312 N. 5th, did find a live bomb on Wednesday afternoon in a pile of scrap at the business. Members of the Fort Riley Bomb Squad were called and they took the artillery shell to the Smoky Hill ANG Range to dispose of it.
Streets in the 300 block of North 5th and the 100 and 200 blocks of East Elm Street were blocked off for a couple of hours. No injuries were reported and an investigation continues.

UPDATE: Officials with the Salina Fire Department tell the Salina Post that a mortar shell was discovered at a Salina business.
The undetonated shell was found in a pile of scrap metal by employees of Salina Iron and Metal, 312 N. 5th, at around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon. It is not known if the shell was a live or practice round, but fire officials say that it is being treated as a live shell.
Several blocks in the downtown area around the business have been closed to traffic. Police have also evacuated all businesses within 1,500 feet of the shells location. The bomb disposal unit from Fort Riley has been notified and is responding to the scene.

We have received unconfirmed reports of a potential undetonated device that has been discovered in the area of Salina Iron and Metal, 312 N. 5th.
Officers with the Salina Police Department currently have traffic blocked on E. Elm Street from 3rd Street to Santa Fe. Salina Iron & Metal has been evacuated.
