KHP Begins Hiring Process for 2016 Recruit Class

khpThe Kansas Highway Patrol is excited to announce that we are now beginning the hiring process for a new class of recruit troopers, who will begin their careers with the Patrol in the summer of 2016. This will be the 56th KHP recruit class, and marks the Patrol’s effort to increase manpower on the highways in Kansas, as well as provide assistance to some local agencies who rely on the Patrol’s partnership.

We appreciate the assistance from Governor Brownback and from the Kansas Legislature, in their support for us hiring another recruit class,” said Colonel Mark Bruce, Superintendent of the Patrol. “This is a great career, one in which you can make a difference every day in someone’s life. We look forward to getting more troopers back out there on Kansas roads and in our communities.”

Applications are being accepted beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015 through December 1, 2015. Applicants will go through an extensive hiring process, which will include a written examination, physical agility test, polygraph exam, background investigation, interview, physical examination, and psychiatric test. Upon successful completion of these steps, final offers of employment will be made. The recruits will report to the Training Academy on July 6, 2016 to begin 23 weeks of training.

With retirements, promotions, and short-staffing in many areas of the state, these new troopers will come at a welcome time. Hiring additional troopers will not only enhance our ability to assist other agencies, but provide much needed law enforcement coverage throughout the state that Kansas residents and travelers have come to rely on.

In an ongoing effort to recruit and retain as many new troopers as the Patrol can, efforts are being made to make the long hiring process a little easier for applicants.

  • The written exam, previously held on one Saturday in Salina, is now offered in several locations across the state, with it being given multiple times.

  • Applicants may take the test up to three times

  • Recruit troopers are now given their duty station for where they will be stationed after training, prior to them reporting for the first day of training, to help make things easier as far as planning for their family.

  • Troopers are in communication with applicants throughout the hiring process, making it easier to address questions, concerns, etc.
