Althea Olive Gram” Rice, 103, of Salina, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015. She was born Dec. 21, 1911, in Tescott to Samuel P. And Mabel F. (McClain) Crawford.
After graduating Tescott High School, she attended Brown Mackie College in Salina. She married Dean Rice in 1932 and made her home here until 1986.
Althea worked at Singer Sewing Machine and at Hoyt West Ladies Shop. She was an avid seamstress and prize winning quilter. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all received their own special blanket. She was a real sports fan and enjoyed Nascar racing (No. 24), KU Basketball (go Jayhawks), and Royals baseball.
After retirement she and Dean moved to Solomon and traveled until Mr. Rice’s death in 1989. Mrs. Rice moved back to Salina in 1990 and worked as a volunteer for St. John’s hospital and R.S.V.P. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was presented with the Presidents service award and also the Presidents call to service award.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan (Jim) Sullivan, of Niles; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Gerold Rice; sisters, Thalia Fender and Lola Berg; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. An inurnment will in Abilene City Cemetery, Abilene.

Vaughn Jay Plumer, 19, of Salina, returned to his heavenly home on June 7, 2015. His devotion to his family and his firm love of God were central to his life.
Vaughn was born September 21, 1995, in Salina to Jay Plumer and Joni Alberts-Plumer. He was part of the Christian community from an early age and was devoted to God and family who loved him dearly.
Vaughn was blessed with a large and loving extended family. Vaughn was an outstanding student and possessed a great curiosity and love of learning. He loved the outdoors and excelled at many endeavors including archeology, geology, and gardening. He loved the archeology digs with Kansas State Historical Society and Kansas Anthropological Association and all the members who loved and mentored him. He loved to hunt, fish and care for his farm animals and pets.
Most of all, Vaughn loved God and read his Bible daily.
Vaughn is survived by his father, Jay Plumer, of Salina; mother and stepfather, Joni Alberts-Plumer and Ryne Hobbs and sister, Tovah Plumer, all of Brookville.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Web and Patricia Plumer, and maternal grandparents, Bernie and Ruby Alberts.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, June 15, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th, Salina.
Vaughn’s service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at First Covenant Church. Pastor Darrell Cooper will officiate.
Memorials to Vaughn are to the Navigators at KSU and Rolling Hills Zoo.

Marjorie N. Merriman Wilvers, 87, of Salina, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015. She was born June 15, 1927 to Amos and Neola (Peterson) Jay.
Marjorie graduated from Salina High School in 1945. She was an avid reader, loved to travel and enjoyed collecting antiques.
On Nov. 18, 1945, she married Glenn Merriman in Salina. To this union they had three daughters. Glenn passed away April 6, 1980. She married Norbert Wilvers on Dec. 29, 1982, in Salina. He passed away Jan. 22, 1992.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Susan K. (Orlan) Anderson and Cynthia A. Riechers, both of Salina; grandchildren, Brian (Julie) Anderson, Brent (Rachel) Anderson, Bradley (Leslie) Anderson, Kenneth (Sally) Johnson, David (Pam) Johnson, Lindsey Riechers, Jared Riechers, Glenn Jacobs and Traci Jacobs; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Glenn and Norbert; daughter, Donna Jacobs; and brothers, Amos Jay Jr. and Arthur Jay.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 15, with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, at the mortuary.
