Deputies of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sobriety checkpoint the evening of June 12, 2015 into the early morning hours of June 13, 2015. These checkpoints are designed to identify impaired drivers and remove them from our roadways. Those motorists suspected of intoxication were given field sobriety tests.

During this checkpoint, 107 cars were stopped between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 1:30 am. Six (6) individuals were tested for driving under the influence; there were no DUI arrests made. There were no other alcohol related arrests made (i.e. Minor in Possession of Alcohol, Transporting an Open Container, etc.)

The intent is to reduce injury crashes and fatalities attributed to alcohol. Periodic checkpoints will be set up throughout the year at various locations in Salina and Saline County.

All efforts were made not to severely interrupt traffic flow. The average detention time for motorists coming through the checkpoint was only 47 seconds. The Saline County Sheriff’s Office would like to commend the motorists that were stopped for their patience and cooperation.
