Salina Police took a man into custody late Sunday evening after an attempted burglary and brief chase.

Capt. Chris Trocheck said that officers were initially called to a residence at 714 W. Prescott to a burglary in progress, where the suspect, 43-year-old Michael Lee Stingley allegedly attempted to break-in to the home. Stingley had broken out a window while the resident was inside. He then fled the area in a maroon van.

Officers responding to the call, spotted the van and attempted to stop it near the intersection of Prescott and Montrose. The van failed to stop and proceeded north on Montrose, west on South Street, north on Clark, west on Walnut, and then back to Clark Street. The vehicle then stopped in a driveway at 132 S. Clark, where Stingley was taken into custody.

Stingley was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of Criminal Damage to Property, Driving Under the Influence, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Refusing to Submit to a Preliminary Breath Test, Failure to Submit to a Breath Test, and Transporting an Open Container.
