Brownback makes appointment to Kansas’ 18th Judicial District

Screen Shot 2015-07-07 at 5.20.43 AMTOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Gov. Sam Brownback has appointed a Wichita lawyer to serve as a district judge for Kansas’ 18th District Court.

Brownback’s office said in a release Monday that Deborah Hernandez Mitchell of Wichita will replace Judge Joseph Bribiesca, who retired. The 18th District Court includes Sedgwick County.

Mitchell is in private practice and previously served as a prosecutor with the Sedgwick County’s District Attorney office. She has an undergraduate, master’s and a law degree from the University of Kansas.
