The exact cause of a vehicle fire late Wednesday evening near Kansas Wesleyan University has not been determined, according to Salina Fire Marshall Roger Williams.

Williams tells the Salina Post that firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment of the truck when they arrived at the scene. The fire, which started just after 9:15 p.m., was quickly contained.

The truck, a 1993 Ford F-350 diesel-powered dually pickup owned by Dakota Best, suffered heavy damage to the front end. According to Williams, the windshield melted as a result of heat from the fire.

The truck was not occupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

Salina firefighters quickly extinguished a vehicle fire in the 100 block of Claflin near Kansas Wesleyan University late Wednesday evening.

A Salina Police officer tells the Salina Post at the scene that the vehicle, a Ford pickup, was totally engulfed in flames when he arrived. The fire started just after 9:15 p.m.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire and there were no injuries.
