Introducing Nicci Novotny, your BANK VI Hero of the Week!
Nicci was nominated primarily because of her efforts in assisting a family with a young cancer patient.
She was heavily involved with several fundraisers for “Prayers for Taryn”. Taryn Edwards, 19, was diagnosed with Large B Cell Lymphoma in 2013.
After Taryn’s diagnosis, Nicci sprang into action. She was in charge of and took part in several fundraisers for Taryn and his family, including a chili feed, a chicken noodle soup dinner, car washes, t-shirt selling campaigns, and even a fundraiser at Salina Speedway. These fundraisers helped Taryn and his family with medical expenses and made sure their other needs would be taken care during the course of Taryn’s treatments.
Nicci is also actively involved in her church. She is currently the president of a women’s ministry called “Sisters in Christ” at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, where she also teaches Wednesday Worship, primarily working with pre-schoolers and kindergartners.
Shonell Edwards, Taryn’s mother, says “Nicci is a hero because of her willingness to always lend a helping hand, and not expecting anything in return. She opens her home to friends in need, spearheaded my son’s cancer fundraisers, ensured that myself and my kids were taken care of during that difficult time”.
