Women Helping Women to Host Lunafest

WomenHelpingWomenWomen Helping Women is pleased to announce the return of Lunafest on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. in at the Salina Art Center Cinema.

Lunafest is a series of short films annually produced by, for and about women. This year’s Lunafest includes 6 films and includes stories from the United States, the Philippines, Cuba and Iran. Total running time for the films is 90 minutes. The 2015 line-up promises to include humor, poignancy, and a variety of styles and content united by the common thread of exceptional storytelling.

Admission is by suggested donation of $10 (or more). Contributions go to support Women Helping Women, a fund that provides emergency grants to Saline County women in need of a hand up. Women Helping Women was established in 2010 as a fund at the Greater Salina Community Foundation. The fund has distributed multiple grants to assist women with issues such as dental work, education and car repair.

This will be the fifth time Women Helping Women have hosted Lunafest. This is the second year the event has been offered in partnership with the Salina Art Center Cinema.

Fifteen percent of all donations go to the Breast Cancer Fund. This national fund is dedicated to eliminating the environmental causes of breast cancer. The tie to this cause is the reason Women Helping Women chooses to host Lunafest during October, national Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Lunafest was established in 2000 by the makers of LUNA whole nutrition bars for women. Charities host the films in communities across the country. There are more than 175 host communities screening the films this year.
