Local artist Brenna Downs has work on display in Salina Public Library’s Gallery 708 through October 23rd.

Downs has had a passion for art since her grandmother, Ruby, taught her to paint when she was just a toddler. She enjoys working with watercolor and acrylic. She loves to experiment with textures and thickness by dripping and splattering paint or layering thickness onto a canvas.

“It’s very freeing and more than a little therapeutic,” Downs said.

For this exhibit, she has chosen to display many of her “Lovely Ladies” and encourages the viewer to draw from their own life experiences to decide for themselves just what the women in the portraits are thinking or feeling. Downs is showing work in watercolor, acrylic and pencil.
