You Too Can Be An Environmental Engineer

SmokyHillsAudubon2It takes no training at all to make a difference as an amateur environmental engineer! Saturday, October 3, is work day at the Audubon Harold Lear Wildlife Sanctuary on Stimmel Road one mile east of Halstead Road. It all begins at 8:00 a.m. – and just a few hours of volunteering can help make the area better for plants, birds, animals and people. You’ll clear trails, pick up trash, cut down invasive trees and enhance the habitat. Be sure you dress appropriately for working outdoors. Volunteers are asked to bring wire cutters, bolt cutters, chainsaws, lopping shears, post hole diggers and pruning saws.

And after a fun morning of making a difference, you’re invited to stay for a picnic. The Smoky Hills Audubon Society will supply the hamburgers and the fixings for volunteers at noon in conjunction with the group’s annual picnic. Picnickers are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Please RSVP to Dan Baffa at 620-271-8891.
