Introducing Austin Eaton and Tristian McDowell, your BANK VI Heroes of the Week!

Austin, 15, and Tristian, 14, were nominated for their efforts in helping two children escape an SUV that had rolled over during a hit and run crash on Saturday, October 3rd.

The two teens were walking to the McDonald’s restaurant at the intersection of Crawford and Broadway to get something to eat, when the crash occurred. After seeing the vehicle rollover, they heard the two children in the vehicle scream. “The screams sounded like my little sister,” Tristian said.

Tristian crawled through the back of the vehicle and helped a 10-year-old girl escape and Austin came to the aid of a 4-year-old little boy. Both teens crawled through broken glass, debris, and even gasoline to help get the children out of the vehicle.

“We’re just kids, we don’t really consider ourselves heroes,” they said.

One of the children was taken to Salina Regional Health Center with minor injuries and later released.
