Introducing Jeff Shaw, your BANK VI Hero of the Week!
Jeff was nominated for coming to the aid of two downtown business owners after a devasting fire earlier this year.
On the evening of April 21st, a fire started in a loft above Laura’s Antiques and That 1 Bar in the 100 block of S. Santa Fe. Both businesses sustained heavy damage.
At the time of the fire, Jeff was in the area when heard about the fire. It was then he sprung into action.
He was there every morning for two weeks and helped remove dangerous debris, such as falling ceiling tiles, and helped moved out inventory from the store. He also assisted with the cleanup, specifically helping remove water from the businesses. He swept and mopped floors, brought in coffee and went out of his way to keep everyone upbeat and positive.
With Jeff’s help, That 1 Bar was able to reopen in just 6 days.
Jeff said he was new in town at the time, and in between jobs, and saw that the businesses needed help. “So I just went down and helped, because that’s what it seems like everyone in this town does,” he said.
Having lived in seven states throughout the course of his life, he said that he cannot compare to Salina to anywhere else he has ever lived. “The people here are genuine, helpful people that lookout for each other,” he said.
Cari Harpster, the owner of That 1 Bar, was very grateful for Jeff’s efforts and assistance. “His help, positive attitude, and gracious demeanor kept everyone in Downtown Salina feeling like Salina loved us and were here to help us in any way,” she said.
