The icy weather over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend kept deputies busy taking reports of weather related wrecks.

Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said deputies worked about ten minor non-injury wrecks, mostly slide offs of roads, or running into guardrails or trees. However, there were two injury wrecks worked by the Sheriff’s Office.

At about 9:35 a.m. Friday morning at Falun Road and Hohneck Road, 37-year-old Scott Phillips of Brookville, lost control of the SUV he was driving after a gust of wind hit the vehicle while on ice.

The SUV went into the ditch. Phillips was not injured but a passenger, 31-year-old Heather Phillips, was taken by EMS for a possible broken arm.

Then, at about 10:45 a.m. Friday morning, 51-year-old Diana Thompson of Gypsum, was injured when she lost control of her car on the ice and went into the path of a semi near the intersection of K-4 Highway and Woodward Road.

Thompson was taken to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of a knee fracture. The driver of the semi, 48-year-old Michael Abbott of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was not hurt.
