An Ellsworth County ambulance that was in route to Salina Regional Health Center was involved in an accident near Brookville Tuesday morning.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the ambulance was eastbound on K-140 Highway, just outside Brookville, when it attempted to pass a Ford F-350 pickup pulling a hay trailer. The truck, driven by 52-year-old Donald W. Goddard of Brookville, was also eastbound and had just turned to left into a farm field, when the ambulance struck the pickup on its left side.

The accident occurred at about 8:40 a.m.

The driver of the ambulance, 34-year-old Jeremiah Brown of Great Bend, and a paramedic on board, 49-year-old Ricky Soukup of Ellsworth, both suffered minor injuries and were transported to Salina Regional for further treatment.

57-year-old Kathryn Whitmer of Wilson, who was being transported in the ambulance, was not injured in the accident. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for a previous medical emergency.

Goddard was not injured.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.
