The Salina Public Library will participate in Hour of Code, a global movement designed to demystify code and show that anyone can learn the basics.

Students ages 6 to 17 can register for a session where they will learn about coding using tutorials that feature popular characters. Minecraft characters will be featured 4-5:30 p.m. Dec. 8, BB-8 from “Star Wars” will be 4-5:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and 10-11:30 a.m. Dec. 12, and “Frozen” characters will be featured from 3-4:30 p.m. Dec. 12. There will also be a session for adults interested in coding. You’re Never Too Old will be from 3-4:30 p.m. Dec. 10. Sessions are free and open to the public.

More than 300 partners have come together to support Hour of Code, including DonorsChoose.org, The College Board, Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, The Walt Disney Company, Target, Teach for America, Khan Academy and more. Last year, every Apple Store in the world hosted an Hour of Code and even President Obama wrote his first line of code as part of the campaign. Find out more about the global program at code.org.
