The Greater Salina Community Foundation is pleased to announce ten local projects received over $21,000 in grants through the Fund for Greater Salina and four additional field of interest funds—Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund for Saline County, Fund for Early Childhood Care, Education & Development, Kansas Health Foundation Fund for GSCF, and L.P. “Pat” Mullen Fund.
Each of these funds were established through the generosity of our donors and reflect the causes that matter to them most.
Grants were awarded as follows:
The Fund for Greater Salina, an unrestricted community grant fund
- $5,000- Friends of the Smoky Hill Museum- a new sound system in the museum galleries and lobby area to enhance public programming.
- $5,000- Salina Community Theatre- a “hearing loop” system in both performance spaces that allows patrons with hearing devices to hear the performance through their own devices versus external headphones.
- $1,900- Sacred Heart Jr.-Sr. High School- to purchase laptops for the high school debate team to use for research during competitions.
- $970- Salina Parks & Recreation- a laptop and projector to provide better training for Kenwood Cove lifeguards.
Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund for Saline County, a field of interest fund in partnership with the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, Logan, KS
- $847 – Coronado Elementary School-iPads for Early Intervention – early therapeutic intervention for at risk children through iPads and a Proloquo2Go augmentative communication program app.
- $700 – Rolling Hills Zoo- Scholarship Camp- scholarships for 42 low income children to experience nature and science through the Rolling Hills Zoo Scholarship Camp.
- $3,200 – Stiefel Theatre- Stiefel Theatre Educational Program – provides middle school students the opportunity to earn tickets to selected shows by submitting a report or project about the performer they hope to see.
Fund for Early Childhood Care, Education & Development, a field of interest fund aimed at helping prepare children for kindergarten in Ottawa and Saline counties
- $1,000- Smoky Hills Public Television- to provide books to low-income children enrolled in Head Start in Saline and Ottawa Counties.
Kansas Health Foundation Fund for GSCF, a public health field of interest fund
- $2,000- Saint Francis Community & Family Services, Inc.- matching funds for the “Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools,” program that will provide salad bar equipment for the children’s resident program
L.P. “Pat” Mullen Fund, a field of interest fund for the education of youth in the areas of arts and humanities, science, technology, and invention.
- $1,160- USD 305- classroom set of ukuleles for 4th and 5th grades students at Meadowlark Ridge Elementary School.
$21,777 Total Grants Awarded
Grant applications are currently being accepted through Greater Salina Community Foundation’s new year-round grant cycle. The grants committee will meet again in January to determine the next round of grants. In order to be considered for the next round, grant applications must be submitted by December 21, 2015.
Those interested in applying can find grant guidelines and supporting information on the Foundation’s website, www.gscf.org. Applicants will complete one universal application, GSCF Grants. Only applications on the Foundation’s online system will be accepted. The GSCF grants committee will meet bi-monthly to determine grant recipients.
