A fire believed to have been caused by a space heater destroyed a mobile home in Brookville early Sunday morning.

Saline County Sheriff’s Captain Roger Soldan said Saline County Fire District #3 responded to the fire at about 7:30 a.m. at 402 E. 2nd in Brookville.

The occupant of the trailer, Elisa Chavez, said she woke up to the smell of smoke and saw flames. She and her children were able to get out of the trailer safely.

The trailer is considered a total loss, which has been estimated at $5,000.
