The Saline County Sheriff’s Office has released the results from their recent participation in the Thanksgiving Holiday S.T.E.P. Enforcement Campaign.

During the campaign, the Saline County Sheriff’s Office conducted overtime saturation patrols to primarily enforce Kansas’ impaired driving and occupant restraint laws. Over a seven day period beteween November 23-29, officers issued 16 safety belt citations, gave 10 warnings, 6 other citations and 5 arrests. All told, officers made 33 enforcement stops during the campaign.

According to Sheriff Glen Kochanowski, “the idea behind enforcement campaigns like this is, first and foremost, to save lives and prevent injury in a way that encourages safer driving decisions in the future. Safety begins by adopting two very simple and inflexible rules: ‘Absolutely no one rides in my car unless buckled in properly,’ and ‘I don’t ride with any driver who has been drinking, including myself, for any reason.’ Remember that, while the campaign may be over, the enforcement of occupant restraint and alcohol laws is ongoing.”
