On Tuesday morning, a new statue was mounted to its pedestal just outside the Graves Family Sports Complex on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University.

The statue, called Spiritus, was made by Tim Chapman, President and CEO of the Fort Hays State University Foundation. Chapman finished the last 3-6 credits of his bachelor’s degree at Kansas Wesleyan University, graduating in 1999. He continues his interest artwork today.

Spiritus is a coyote that weighs about 150 pounds and is about 4 feet long. Chapman said it took more than 100 hours to complete the statue, which can be seen at its permanent home on the northwest corner of 4th and Claflin, just outside the stadium’s entrance.

The statue was donated by Kansas Wesleyan alumni Kent and Pat Lambert.
