Joseph (Big Joe) Phillip Scheele, 65 of Kansas City, MO, passed away December 11, 2015 in the home. He was born on June 16th, 1950 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, the son of Eugene and Alice (McElroy) Scheele. He enlisted in the Air Force serving in the Vietnam War. Joe owned and operated an Auto Body business, where his work won him several car show awards. He gained a love for the open road and traveling over many years of driving a semi.

Council Grove – Linden Eugene “Dick” Patterson, 85, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away December 12, 2015, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, Kansas.
He was born near Maple Hill, Kansas on June 18, 1930, to Edward G. and Margaret D. (Hankins) Patterson, one of eleven children. The family moved to Amoret, MO in 1936, where Dick attended school. In 1947, Dick returned to Kansas, where he met his future wife Yolanda Gentry.
Dick and Yalonda “Bobbie” married February 13, 1951. They were blessed with five children: Ronald, Lonnie, Linda, Gail and David, all of whom Dick was very proud. They raised their family while farming around the Alta Vista area. During the time Dick was farming, he also worked at several other jobs. He worked on the missile base and the Milford Dam, and also bought a backhoe and started a construction business. Dick and Bobbie worked side by side for 64 years, for which he was very proud.
In 2003, Dick suffered a stroke and was confined to a wheelchair. He and Bobbie moved to Council Grove in 2005. Dick was able to get into a golf cart from his wheel chair, and would spend countless hours picking up cans and visiting with everyone. He never met a stranger and Dick ALWAYS had a joke to tell.
Dick loved his music. He could play the piano, guitar, mandolin and fiddle. He played by ear and could play anything. At all of the “get togethers”, there were lots of food and visiting, but mostly music and dancing. Dick loved his family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, step great-granddaughter, seven brothers: Carl, Claude, Freddie (infant), Frank, Lee, Ed and Ken, and two sisters: Hazel York and Margie Bohlken Freeman.
Dick is survived by his wife, Bobbie, of the home; children, Ronnie Patterson, Lonnie Patterson and wife Lovejoy, Linda Blosser, Gail Horton and husband Brad, all of Council Grove and David Patterson and wife LouAnn, of Leawood, KS; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; sister, Jean Cronin and husband Joe, of Dwight; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
A Memorial Service will be at 10:00am, Thursday, December 17, 2015, at the Congregational Church of Christ. A private inurnment will follow at a later date.

MYRNA JOHNSON, 98 died December 10, 2015 at Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center, KS. She was born on March 20, 1917 in Clay Center, KS, the daughter of Tom and Violet (Thornton) Bigler. Myrna was raised In Clay County and graduated from CCCHS in 1935. She received her cosmetologist license in 1938. In 1944, Myrna and Nola (Logan) Nyberg moved to California to work as hair stylists. She married Verl S. Johnson on January 23, 1946 and they made their home on the family farm. Myrna continued working as a hair stylist. She had several duties with the Clay County Extension office. She was active in the Rainbow Girls, a 4-H leader, and a 60 year member of Order of Eastern Star where she held many offices. Myrna was a former member of the Hayes United Methodist Church and a current member of the Clay Center United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Rita Swick, three brothers and four sisters.

HELEN LAURA ODGERS DAVIS, 86 died December 12, 2015 at Midland Care Hospice in Topeka, KS. She was born on April 20, 1929 in Clay Center, KS, the daughter of Archie and Violet (Linquist) Kimball.
Helen was raised in Clay Center and graduated from CCCHS. She married Melvin L. Odgers on December 22, 1946. They made their home in McFarland, KS. Helen and Melvin returned to Clay Center in 1966. Melvin preceded her in death in 1970. Helen later married John Davis and he preceded her in death in 1993.
Helen’s work career included employment at KP&L, Wabaunsee County, Clay County, Real Estate, US Postal Service, and the Veteran’s Administration. Upon her retirement from the US Postal Service, Helen obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors from Washburn University in Topeka.
Helen was a member of the American Legion, VFW, National Association of Retired Federal Workers, and the Kansas Authors Club. Helen loved and liked writing poetry which received recognition from the Kansas Authors Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Hazel Crawford, Vivian Stallsmith and Donna Jean Gilbert

Marcine Donna Bengtson-Halbert, 94, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 5:30 a.m., Monday, December 14th, 2015 peacefully, at Cedars Health Care Center.
Marcine was born in Gypsum, Kansas on September 12, 1921, a daughter of Selma Magalena (Hubele) and Edward Francis Phillips.
Marcine attended Enterprise and Olive Springs rural Schools in Kansas and attended and graduated from Roxbury High School, Roxbury, Kansas. She attended Emporia State Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas for 1 year.
Marcine was a member of First United Methodist Church McPherson, Kansas where she served as past president of the United Methodist Women and a member of a circle.
Marcine was a homemaker and later worked for Manager at Wheatheart Sales Tupperware Home Parties Wichita, Kansas for 15 years until her retirement in 1988.
Marcine was a member of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Zeta Delta Chapter, Futurama Study Club and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She enjoyed volunteer work, community service, sewing both as a hobby and volunteer, camping, reading, and historic traveling.
Marcine Donna Phillips was united in marriage to Carol Colonel Bengtson on May 16, 1942 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He died on November 18, 1968. Marcine Donna Bengtson was united in marriage to Darrell Vance Halbert on June 7, 1975 at Hutchinson, Kansas. Darrell died on November 28, 2011.
Marcine is survived by her children, Karon Eileen Morse and her husband Douglas, of Gamaliel, AR, Donna Carol Ostner and her husband John, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Colonel “Lucky” Otto Bengtson, of Gamaliel, AR, and Marcia Suzette Smith and her husband Edward, of Little Rock, Arkansas; her step-children, Darrell “Dick” R. Halbert and his wife Evelyn, of Louisville, Kentucky, Larry Halbert, of Eufala, Oklahoma, Kurt Halbert and his wife Kim, of Little River, Kansas, Alan Halbert and his wife Christine, of Lyons, Kansas, and Ruby A. Navarro and her husband Tony, of Emporia, Kansas; her sister- in-law, Arylis Phillips, of McPherson, Kansas; her brother, Loren Phillips, of McPherson, Kansas; her 8 grandchildren, Mark Douglas Morse, Paul Jacob Morse, Robert Jason Morse, Suzette Michelle Smith, Krystel Richelle Beasley, Cariann Janelle Smith, Nichole Carol McGeroge, and Alan Ostner; her 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 9- Step-grandchildren, 11 – step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Carol C. Bengtson and Darrell Halbert, sister Nola E. Poulseen, and brother, Gail E. Phillips.

Tad Randall Brockman, 54, of McPherson and formerly of Wichita, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2015, at his home in McPherson. Tad served in the United States Navy and was working at Evergreen Recycle in Park City.
Tad was born on September 19, 1961, in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of William Arthur and Linda Lou (Wood) Warfield. He attended Sedan High School.
Survivors include: girlfriend, Debra Richert of McPherson, KS; daughters, Katlin Brockman and November Brockman, both of Andover, KS; sisters, Lynn (Chris) Bailey of Caney, KS, Lori (Mike) Davis of Mobile, AL, and Wendy Warfield of Germany; and aunt, Sheila Wood of Caney, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will take place at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, KS.

Ernest Henry Hofstetter, 100, of Natoma, Kansas, passed
away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Redbud Estates in Plainville, Kansas.
Ernest was born on a farm near Paradise, Kansas on August 19, 1915, the son of Henry and Minnie (Beisner) Hofstetter. He grew up and attended schools north of Natoma and was baptized in the Lutheran faith.
Ernest served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was stationed in Europe where he received a Purple Heart. After the war he returned to Natoma.
Ernest was a farmer and rancher his whole life. He also raised and trained horses. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church and the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.
Surviving family include his two brothers, Paul Hofstetter (Deloris) of Hill City, Kansas and Edwin Hofstetter of Lansing, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Frieda Pfortmiller.
Celebration of Ernest’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Natoma. Burial will follow at the North Lutheran Cemetery near Natoma. Viewing will be at the church the morning of the service from 9:00 AM to service time. Memorials have been established with the Lutheran Hour Ministries or the Peace Lutheran Church.
