PLAINVILLE – Ralph E. Eickleberry, age 73, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville. He was born May 30, 1942, at Liberty, Illinois, the son of Glen and Mildred (Hanson) Eickleberry. Ralph proudly served his country with the United States Army, serving in Germany, in the early 1960’s. On October 22, 1971, he was married to Alma Gibson at St. Louis, Missouri. He was a truck driver. They made their home in Marion, for many years. Alma passed away March 21, 2001. Ralph is survived by his sons: George Gore of Durham; Jeff Gore of Palco; Bill Eickleberry of Wood River, Illinois; and Glen Eickleberry of Damar; his daughter, Sherry Kamp of Wood River, Illinois; brothers, Jack and Richard; 16 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm, Marion, KS, 66861. Inurnment will follow at the Marion Cemetery.

Samuel A. Yowell, 80, of Topeka, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015. He was born July 19, 1925, in Salina, the son of Verle Edwin and Kathryn Barbara (Kathary) Yowell. Sam was a purchasing agent for the state of Kansas.
He is survived by his sister, Jayne (John Edward Jr.) Petrym of San Antonio; and two nephews, John Edward Petry, and Matthew Alan (Sarah) Petry, all of San Antonio.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, with Salina Blue Lodge No. 60 Masons officiating.

Funeral services for Alfred D. Novotny, age 79, of Abilene, formerly of Solomon, will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Solomon . Mr. Novotny passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina.
He was born August 17, 1936, in Holyrood, Kansas the son of Winslow J. and Marie C. (Voss) Novotny. He served his country in the United States Army and enjoyed hunting, fishing, mechanic work, and farming.
On August 16, 1965 he married Donna Longbine in Oklahoma. She passed away February 4, 1995. He is survived by his daughters Debra Dettweiler of Salina, Shellie Dettweiler of Augusta, Kansas, Amanda Glover of Hutchinson; niece Donna Bonneau of Abilene; nephew Steven Longbine of Abilene; brother Roy Novotny of Larned, Kansas, sisters Elizabeth Holmes and Marjorie Reed of South Hutchinson, Kansas, Dorothy Eisiminger of Hutchinson, Kansas; 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Donna, 5 brothers, and his parents.
Alfred’s final resting place will be in the Prairie Mound Cemetery near Solomon with military honors provided by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alfred D. NEWTON – Treva O. Bogart, 90, passed away January 1, 2016, at Asbury Park of Newton, Kansas. She was born November 20, 1925, at Leon, Kansas. She was the daughter of James and Naomi (Ballinger) Bloom. She was a housekeeper for 26 years at Asbury Park, working until she was 84 years old. On June 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Elmer Earl Bogart, he preceded her in death in August of 1973. She was also preceded by siblings: James Bloom, Lila Whiteside and Naomi Schell. She is survived by her sons: Earl Calvin Bogart of Salina; and David Eugene Bogart of Valley Center; her daughters: Jeannine Van Hooser of Orrick, Missouri; Trula Crum of Newton; and Diana Bogart of Hillsboro; a sister, Loretta Britt of Atlanta, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. Garth L. Ellwood, 86, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 4, 2016, at The Cedars, McPherson. He was a retired sales representative and had worked in the newspaper advertising business, starting his career at the McPherson Sentinel. He was also a former National Advertising Manager for the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in Ontario, California.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Garth was born on May 12, 1929, in McPherson, KS, the son of Virgil Odell and Leona June (Spear) Ellwood. He graduated from McPherson High School and attended McPherson College. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1955 with a Master’s Degree. He was united in marriage to Cara Lou Sheets on August 24, 1952. He married Vida J. (Kliewer) Schrag on June 6, 1998. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2009.
He was a member of First Christian Church, McPherson and McPherson Kiwanis Club. He was also a SCORE business consultant.
Survivors include: two sons, David Ellwood of Lakewood, CO and Bill Ellwood and wife, Penny, of Blue Springs, MO; three grandchildren, Amanda (Ellwood) Arndt and husband, Zack, Wes Ellwood, and Eric Ellwood; one great-granddaughter, Lula Arndt; brother, Doug Ellwood and wife, Mary, of Little River, KS; and sister-in-law, Vera Ellwood of McPherson, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Vida, and brother, Jim Ellwood.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 8, 2016, with Military Honors at the First Christian Church with Rev. Penny Ellwood and Rev. Lynn Scott officiating. A visitation is scheduled from 10:00 AM, Friday, until service time at 11:00 AM, at the First Christian Church. A private inurnment will be held at the McPherson Mausoleum.
