Wichita State women’s head basketball coach Jody Adams has announced that Shocker junior guard and Southeast of Saline graduate Hannah Mortimer has received a scholarship for this season.

Mortimer, a Salina native that transferred from Brown Mackie College, was a walk-on earlier this season. She adds depth to the guard positions, and increases the Shockers roster total to 11 players.

“She’s a great example of someone that you could never question her effort or attitude,” said Adams. “Because of that effort, attitude, and love for this program, I’m giving her a scholarship this semester.”

Mortimer played in 27 games last season for Brown Mackie. She averaged 16.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. She shot 80.9% from the free throw line, good for 18th in NJCAA Division II. “She works hard every day,” said sophomore guard Aundra Stovall. “She’s been a big spark for us.”

Mortimer graduated from Southeast of Saline in 2012, where she was a four year letter winner in both basketball and softball. She was also a two-time high school state champion power lifter as a junior and senior. On the court, she averaged 16 points and 2 assists per game and was named All-North Central Activities Association (NCAA) all four years in both basketball and softball.

During her time at Brown Mackie College, Mortimer was named All-Region XI as a freshman and sophomore. She led Region XI in scoring with 16.2 points, and also in free throw and three-point percentage. Her game bests were 37 points, a school record, eight assists and six steals. She averaged 16.3 points and 2.0 assists for the Lady Lions.
