Salina Police Tuesday investigated more reports of counterfeit money being passed at local businesses.

Captain Mike Sweeney said phony $100 bills were passed at Rod’s Convenience Store, 2140 W. Crawford, Casey’s, 500 N. Ohio, and Kwik Shop, 305 W. Schilling Road. A counterfeit $20 bill was passed at Dillions, 1201 W. Crawford. It is believed all the counterfeit money was taken by the businesses on Monday.

Since New Year’s Eve, police have investigated nearly a dozen reports of counterfeit money being passed at area businesses.

Sweeney encourages businesses to work with employees to help them identify counterfeit money. The $100 bills being passed in Salina are smaller than real bills, darker in colored, do not feel as crisp, and in the case of the $100 bills, the number on the corners of the bill is smaller than normal.
