Thanks to grants from the Petco Foundation, the Salina Animal Shelter has made and is in the process of making upgrades to the shelter on North 2nd Street.

Vanessa Cowie, the Animal Services Supervisor at the shelter said Petco has provided two grants totaling $75,000 since last May. The first grant was used to install a new heating and cooling system in the shelter cat room, training for staff, and additional dog kennels.

The latest grant will be used for resurfacing the floor in the shelter’s dog room and installing stainless steel glass fronted kennels.

While the work is being done, dogs will be housed at boarding facilities in Salina.

Cowie also said the shelter, which is a no kill shelter, has received $80,000 in private donations in the last year.
