A Gypsum man loses his pickup to fire Friday afternoon while taking a load of trash to the landfill.

Saline County Sheriff’s Captain Roger Soldan said Jerry Petty stopped his 1977 Ford F-150 pickup with a hydraulic bed, at Waterwell Road and Halstead Road after it backfired.

When he tried to start it, it backfired again and caught fire.

The fire occurred just after 1 p.m. Total loss is estimated at $3,000.
