MANHATTAN – Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 Board of Education announced Wednesday evening that Dr. Marvin Wade has been selected as the district’s new Superintendent. Wade will replace Dr. Robert Shannon who is retiring on July 1, 2016.
Wade worked as a school psychologist in Salina from 1989-90
He was principal at Clay Center Community Middle School, Clay Center, KS (1992 – 1995), Special Education Coordinator/School Psychologist, Twin Lakes Educational Cooperative, Clay Center, KS (1990-1992), and a School Psychologist in Dodge City, KS (1983-1989).

Wade currently serves as the Superintendent of Schools in the Marshalltown Community School District in Marshalltown, Iowa. He has been the superintendent since 2008 and has served as the chief executive responsible for all aspects of district performance including student achievement, community leadership, and strategic planning.

Dr. Wade holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Colorado State University (1979); an Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado (1983); and an Educational Doctorate degree in Educational Administration from Kansas State University (1995). His professional employment has included positions as a school psychologist for the Southwest Kansas Area Cooperative District and the Central Kansas Cooperative in Education; Special Education Coordinator/School Psychologist at Twin Lakes Educational Cooperative in Clay Center, Kansas; middle school principal in Clay Center, Kansas; Director of Special Services and Curriculum, Associate Superintendent for Instruction and Special Services, and Superintendent of Schools for Weld County School District in Keenesburg, Colorado; and Superintendent of Schools for Marshalltown Community School District in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Professional memberships related to Dr. Wade’s work in educational administration include the American Association of School Administrators, School Administrators of Iowa Executive Leaders, Buena Vista University Teacher Education Advisory Committee, Urban Education Network, Adjunct College Instructor, Iowa Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, and Iowa Competency-Based Education Collaborative.
The contract includes:
- Two-year appointment beginning July 1, 2016 and ending June 30, 2018
- Compensation of $175,000 annually
- Moving expenses approved by the Board of Education
- $6,000 annually to be used at the discretion of the Superintendent for in-district mileage, additional health insurance options, memberships, etc.
- Full family health insurance benefit
- 20 days of vacation annually – same amount as all 12-month USD 383 administrators
- 12 days (one day per month) of sick leave annually – same amount as all full time, 12-month USD 383 employees
- 1 day of personal leave annually – same amount as all 12-month USD 383
Additionally, the Superintendent must have on file with the Board of Education a current Kansas Administration Certificate.

Dr. Wade currently serves as the Superintendent of Marshalltown Community School District in Marshalltown, Iowa. The Marshalltown District announced Wednesday that Wade gave his resignation effective at the end of June.
Wade has also served as Superintendent of Schools, Associate Superintendent for Instruction and Special Services, and Director of Special Services and Curriculum in Weld Country Re-3J School District in Keenesburg, CO (1995 – 2008).
Prior to that, he was a Principal at Clay Center Community Middle School, Clay Center, KS (1992 – 1995), Special Education Coordinator/School Psychologist, Twin Lakes Educational Cooperative, Clay Center, KS (1990-1992), and a School Psychologist in Salina, KS (1989-1990) and Dodge City, KS (1983-1989).
He received his Doctorate in Education from Kansas State University (1995). He earned his Educational Specialist degree from the University of Northern Colorado (1983) and his Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University (1979).
