Mark Clyde Metz, 65, of Plainville, KS passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016. He was born February 23, 1950 in Omaha, NE.
Mark retired from Cars Counselors in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, as a car salesman in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Cecil Metz; and grandparents, Carl and Iolyne Richards; and his brother, Jay Metz.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; sister, Carla Blanchett; her children Amy and Sam; and nieces Sarah and Rachel.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 2-7 with family to receive guests from 4-6 at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina, KS. 67401

Sylvia E. Hines, 73, of Salina, passed away January 22, 2016. She was born March 31, 1942 in Compton, CA to Carl and Winifred (Cox) Wilson.
Survivors include her children Mark and Susan Hines of Paradise, CA, Monica Oswald of Chico, CA, Tom and Natt Hines of Ellwood City, PA, Amy and Kraig Voss of Grand Island, NE, Carl and Anny Hines of Salina, KS; sister Loretta Peterson of Paradise, CA; grandchildren Zachary, Amber, Michaela, Jessica, Treyton, Noah, Jack, Angela, and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Wyatt, and Cheyanne.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son John Hines.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 28, at Ryan Mortuary. There will be a private service at another date.

Wilma Irene Peterson Donker was born October 28, 1921 to John H. and Bernice Knowlton Peterson at the home on a farm in Jewell County Kansas. She departed this life of 94 years, 2 months, and 28 days on January 25, 2016 at Hilltop Lodge, where she had resided the past 3 years. Wilma was the second oldest of 8 children. She attended school in Randall, Kansas, graduating in the Class of 1940. Wilma moved to Beloit in 1942, where she worked at the Beloit Laundry & Day Cleaners, and as a waitress. On June 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to Ross Holbrook Donker. Five children – Steven, Susanne, Jerry, Roxanne, and Judy were born to this union. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. Along with raising a family, she did private washing and ironing. Wilma had a loving heart, and was always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors. She was a member of the Beloit First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sports, especially Royals baseball and KU basketball, along with playing bingo, cards, and Wahoo. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Ross; her parents; daughter Susanne; son-in-law Jim Welander; grandson Jared Smith; and brothers Hermon, Carol, Damon, Roland, Elmin, and Elmer. Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are sons Steven and wife Carla of Beloit, and Jerry and wife Nancy of WaKeeney; daughters Roxanne Welander of Pomeroy, Iowa, and Judy Melton and husband Dave of Beloit; son-in-law Larry Smith of Phillipsburg; sister Thelma Sahlfeld of Beloit; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, February 1 at the Beloit First United Methodist Church followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 PM Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or the Church.

EUGENE MOREHEAD, 90 died January 25, 2016 at Residence in Salina, KS. He was born on November 15, 1925 in Republic, KS. The son of Murlin and Mildred (Mitchell) Morehead.
Eugene (Gene) was born on the farm in Republic, Ks to Murlin Joseph and Mildred Agnes (Mitchell) Morehead on November 15, 1925. He was the first born of five children. Gene was raised in the Belleville-Republic-Scandia area and graduated from Scandia High School. He was the last remaining class member of 1942. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley Arlene (Robbins), his second wife, Eula Jean (Young), his third wife, Erma Lee (Thompson-Manning), his daughter, Brenda Joyce, his brother, Marvin Kay Morehead, his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth Marilyn and Hugh Elyea.

Elrene Helen Stowe, 94, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 2:10 a.m., Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 peacefully, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River, Kansas.
Elrene was born in rural Ellsworth, Kansas on November 3, 1921, a daughter of Helen Libby (Doubrava) and Ferdinand “Fred” Barta.
Elrene attended the Cass Ridge country school in Ellsworth County, Golden Bell country school in Lincoln County, and graduated from Ellsworth High School, Ellsworth, Kansas in 1939.
Elrene was a 71 year member of First Presbyterian Church, McPherson. Through the years Elrene served her church in many capacities.
Elrene was a homemaker, she worked as a stenographer for Rice County Extension Office and later for Farmers Alliance Insurance Company and she was a local artist.
Elrene was a member of the McPherson Opera House, McPherson Art’s Council, and Ladies Reading Circle.
Elrene was united in marriage to Reginald Albert “Reggie” Stowe on May 6, 1943 at the First Congregational Church, Little River, Kansas. Reggie died September 5, 2008.
Elrene is survived by her brother, Fred Barta and his wife Patricia, of Little River, Kansas; her sister, Marianne Gawith, of Salina, Kansas; her son-in-law, Tom Donnelly, of Arizona; her granddaughter, Sheilah Donnelly, of Arizona; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Elrene was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Rejene Stowe and Yolanda Donnelly, a sister, Thelma Sporn; and her husband Reggie Stowe.
The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, McPherson, Kansas, with Reverend Ted Weis officiating.
The graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.

Olive “June” Mayhew, a lifelong resident of Rooks County, Kansas, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 102 years old. She was born to Ernest and Lillie Blanche (Allstot) Darland in Codell, Kansas on June 2, 1913. During her childhood years, she enjoyed playing with her siblings Edith, Homer, Naomi and Lucile on their parent’s produce farm in Codell. After graduating from Codell High School, she moved to Waterloo, Iowa where she attended business school. Following school she returned home to the family farm.
A mutual friend by the name of Orville introduced June to Paul Henry Mayhew. It was said to be love at first sight between them and they were united in marriage on October 6, 1934 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They were married for 71 wonderful years, until Paul went home to be with the Lord on October 28, 2005. During their years of marriage, they settled in Plainville and were blessed with three children, a son Gary Delane, and daughters Carol June and Paula Jean.
For many years, June enjoyed being able to stay at home and take care of her children. She loved her children so much and wanted nothing but the best for them, Gary gave her the nickname “Mother Perfect” because there was nothing she wouldn’t do to see her children succeed in all they did. She enjoyed spending time in her kitchen baking family dinners, along with homemade sour cream raisin pie, coconut cream pie, or her famous angel food cake. She also loved to make homemade vanilla ice cream as a special treat.
During the spring you could always find June outside, tending to her garden or working flower beds that were filled with her favorite rose plants. If she wasn’t outside, she could be found enjoying her favorite pastime of shopping. Whether for groceries, Avon products, or crystal dishes, June would take her time in order to find just exactly what she wanted or needed. Later, she went to work for the Plainville School District as a cook. She loved working at the school, where she was able to see the smiles of the many children that passed through the lunchroom every day. She was blessed to work at the district for 20 years.
After retiring, June was able to spend time at home, spoiling her grandchildren, her favorite being whoever was the one in front of her. Of course, she would do just about anything for her grandchildren, from making them homemade cinnamon rolls, or homemade orange rolls upon request, to buying a Hello-Kitty stapler because she was told, “My parents would not mind if you bought this for me.” No matter what she was doing with the grandkids, she would be filled with life and joy as if she were a child herself. She made sure each of her grandkids knew they were special and loved by her.
June is survived by her daughters Carol Pywell and Paula Koehler; sons-in-law Richard Pywell and David Koehler; granddaughters Laurie Mayhew, Tracy Miller, Jill Wechsler, Brandee Klowann; grandsons, Mark Mayhew, Chad Persing, JR Miller, Kirby Wechsler, Raymond Klawonn; and great-grandsons Jesse Miller, Chase Wechsler, Kyle Wechsler, Nathaniel Wechsler, and Kane Persing.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Lillie Darland, husband Paul Henry Mayhew, son Gary Mayhew, brother Homer Darland, and sisters Edith Turner, Naomi VanKirk, and Lucille Zitzlsperger.
Even at the age of 102, June never slowed down. She enjoyed the activities at Solomon Valley Manor, spending time with friends, celebrating birthdays, going to the Rooks County Fair, watching her great-grandson play basketball, and coming home to enjoy both Thanksgiving and Christmas with her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to invite you to join them at 1:30 pm, on Thursday, January 28, 2016 for a Celebration of Life Service at the Nazarene Church in Plainville. Burial will follow at the Plainville Cemetery.

Osythe M. (Kuck) Wallert passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Great Bend Health & Rehabilitation in Great Bend, Kansas at the age of 91. She was born November 20, 1924 to Henry and Ruth (Viglini) Kuck in Wilson, Kansas.
Osythe attended school in Wilson and graduated from Wilson High School. Shortly after graduation she was united in marriage to Leonard Wallert on December 19, 1943 in Russell, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children: Leonard Jr., Rocklin, Rick, and Jackie. They lived in Wilson until 1960 when they moved to Great Bend, Kansas. Osythe worked for Central Kansas Medical Center as a switchboard operator then as a surgery scheduler. She went on to work as a medical coder for Dr. David Gillenwater for 22 years, retiring in 2013. She was meticulous in her work and enjoyed working in her yard and traveling with her family.
Survivors include her son, Rick Wallert of Great Bend, Kansas; daughter Jackie Swire and husband Vic of Bushton, Kansas; three grandchildren: Stacey Chandler of Wichita, Craig Wallert of Wichita, and Josh Hagen of Olathe, Kansas; four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard in 2003, infant son Leonard Jr., son Rocklin in 2000, and a sister Connie Sebesta.

Roger William Thorstenberg, 88, of Lindsborg, passed away January 24, 2016.
He was born November 28, 1927, the son of Carl and A. Irene (Nelson) Thorstenberg in Salina, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Ruth (Wallin) Thorstenberg.
Roger is survived by his nephews, John Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds, niece, Mary Jose, and many cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, January 29, from 4-7pm with family present from 5-7pm at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.

Susan Marie (Naylor) Mayberry, 57, of Russell, Kansas passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Russell Regional Hospital.
Susan was born January 30, 1958 om Plainville, Kansas area. The daughter of Verle and Lavon (Doughtery) Naylor. She grew up and attended schools in the Codell area.
Susan was united in marriage to Ricky D. Mayberry, Sr. on September 19, 1980 in Clay Center, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three children; Cassandra, Ricky, Jr. and Jessica. They made their home in Harvard, Nebraska until 1983 when they moved to Russell. Ricky preceded her in death on November 27, 2008.
Susan ran a Day Care out of her home during the late 80’s and early 90’s. Then she worked a couple of years at Meridy’s restaurant and was in housekeeping at Days Inn Motel before she started working at the Russell A&W restaurant. She worked there for over 10 years before retiring due to health reasons. She enjoyed wood working, raising a garden, and attending family barbeques. She loved traveling and experiencing new places and taking care of her grandchildren.
Surviving family include her daughter, Cassandra Mayberry of Russell, Kansas; son, Ricky Mayberry, Jr. (Connie) of Luray, Kansas; brother, Gerald Naylor (Carol) of Lucas, Kansas; sisters, Evelyn Burns (Steve) of Russell, Kansas and Ruth Ryan of Great Bend, Kansas; brother-in-law, Ronnie Bland of Lucas, Kansas; six grandchildren, Kandis, Alyssa, Makaila, Ricky III, Seth and Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ricky, daughter Jessica, and sister Mildred Bland.
The family will be greeting friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.
