According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, troopers have been told to keep westbound I-70 closed at Hedville Road (Exit 244) until at least 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. This closure is due to lack of accommodations caused by the winter storm that is effecting portions of northern and western Kansas.
The Kansas Department of Transportation’s David Greiser tells The Salina Post that westbound highway signs indicate I-70 is closed at Salina. This is to give motorists ample time to get off the interstate before reaching the Hedville exit. “If you keep going past the I-135 Junction, you’re just going to get turned back around,” said Greiser.
Eastbound lanes from Hays to Hedville Road remain open. Both east and westbound lanes of I-70 remain closed from Hays to Denver.

Westbound I-70 is now closed at the Hedville Interchange (Exit 244) in Saline County, west of the I-70/I-135/US-81 Interchange, due to lack of accommodations caused by the winter storm.
Motels and truck stops are full west of Salina making it necessary to close the Interstate. Accommodations are regally available in Salina. I-70 westbound is closed until further notice.
