Fayne Ivan Beattie, 87, of Conway, Kansas passed away 7:10 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at his daughters home, rural McPherson, Kansas.
Fayne was born in McPherson, Kansas on January 31, 1929, a son of Maud Ethel (Schletzbaum) and Ivan Wilbur Beattie.
Fayne attended the Conway Grade School and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1948.
Fayne honorably served in the U.S. Army from February 13, 1953 to January 4, 1955 as a Cpl during the Korean War.
Fayne was a farmer and worked as a mechanic, was a Lineman for the Conway Telephone Company, and later as an operator for 25 years for Conway Underground Storage.
Fayne was a member of the American Legion Post 24 of McPherson.
Fayne was a jack of all trades and master of none. He built 4 of his out buildings at his farm, built his mower, a loader, and a wrench truck which is still in operation and he was a very good welder. For a short time he had a water well drilling business. Fayne liked working on anything mechanical, and he could make just about anything. He liked collecting and restoring antique one cylinder gas engines and tractors of all kinds, with his son David, then taking them to shows. He was one of the founders of the Conway Volunteer Fire Department and had received an award for his 50 years of service. He was proud of the fact that he has lived in the same section that he was born on with the exception of his military service.
Fayne was united in marriage to Waneta Mable Lovett on February 14, 1952 in McPherson, Kansas. Waneta died on August 21, 1979.
Fayne is survived by his children, Fayneta Campbell, of McPherson, Kansas and David Beattie and his wife Rhonda, of McPherson, Kansas; his sister-in-law, Nina Macon, of Casa Grande, Arizona; his favorite grandchildren, Hannah Beattie, of El Dorado, Kansas and Eli Beattie, of McPherson, Kansas; and his favorite great-granddaughter; other relatives and a host of friends.
Fayne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Waneta Lovett Beattie; his brother Wilbur Beattie; and a son-in-law, Gene Campbell.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas, with members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 providing Military rites.

Susie Romine, 94 passed away February 2, 2016 at her home in Salina, KS. She was born March 6, 1921 in Appleton City, MO., the daughter of Leland and Sarah Borum. She married Delos V. Romine on April 26, 1947. They lived in Abilene, KS., where Susie was involved in many community activities and church work at Abilene First Christian Church. She was co-director of the Abilene Area Food and Clothing Center for many years. She enjoyed traveling, painting, fishing, bridge and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Ross; her parents, sisters Virginia McGuire, Lucille Williams and June Millam; brothers Kenneth Borum, H.E. Borum, and Richard Borum. She is survived by daughter, Peg Romine of Salina; son, Larry (Denise) Romine of Avon, IN; sister, Eula Bullard; Joyce (Bob) Herndon, and Sharon Firsick, and brothers, Donald Dee (Donna) Borum and Russell Kelly (Beverly) Borum; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Susie will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Pastors Jason Kohler and Virgil Eubanks officiating. Burial will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 P.M. The family of Susie Romine suggests memorials be given to the Abilene Area Food and Pantry Bank, the Abilene First Christian Church, or to the OCCK INC to be designated to the Transportation Services of Salina.

Martin J. Shane
62, passed away Wednesday, February 3rd, in Abilene. He was born August 17, 1953 in Beecher, Illinois, the son of Shane L. and Jean E. (Garrett) Shane. Growing up in Indiana and California, Martin attended local schools and graduated from Leigh High School in San Jose, California with the class of 1972. He had been employed by the Paradise Parks and Rec. as a Groundsman until moving to Abilene in 2011 to retire. Martin enjoyed his cats and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents.

HERINGTON – Waneda E. Middleton, 94, of Woodbine, KS, died Sunday evening, January 31st, 2016, at the Village Manor in Abilene. She was born on March 22nd, 1921, rural Herington, Kansas, the daughter of William F. and Frieda M. (Weber) Schlesener.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, February 5th, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bill Peterson, officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodbine Cemetery. A public viewing will be at the church beginning 9:30 AM, Friday, until time of services.
She was a former administrator at the Lutheran Home in Herington. She had worked in the Manhattan and Junction City areas as a LPN. In 1968, she returned to school in Manhattan for one year and received training to become a LPN. She graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1939. She was a seamstress and enjoyed get togethers with the nurses and church ladies aide. She was church organist for forty years at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shady Brook.
She married G. Verland Middleton on September 28, 1940, at her parents’ home north of Herington. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2010. She was preceded in death by a sister Paumay Schlesener in 1957, and her parents.
She is survived by a son George Middleton of Herington, three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Middleton of Santa Barbara, CA, Eleanor Browning, of Emporia, Martha “Jane” Battaglieri of Reading, PA, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Marjorie L. Florine, 81, of McPherson and formerly of Roxbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, surrounded by family at The Cedars, McPherson. She was a retired beautician, owning and operating Florine Beauty Shop in Roxbury.
Marjorie was born on May 2, 1934, in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Alva Leroy and Alma Lee (Poe) Taylor. She graduated from Roxbury High School. On December 22, 1951, Marjorie was united in marriage to Jay Florine in Canton, KS. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2013.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, McPherson and former member of Roxbury American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include: son, Donald Florine and wife, Melanie, of Roxbury, KS; daughter, Kari Blankenship of Chicago, IL; brothers, Quincy Taylor of McPherson, KS and Perry Taylor of Augusta, KS; sisters, Arylis Phillips of McPherson, KS, Mary Simmons and husband, Neal, of Ponca City, OK, and Juanita Hanson and husband, Steve, of McPherson, KS; two grandchildren, Vicki Dukes and Connor Blankenship; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Huff and Erika Smith.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, son, Mark Florine, granddaughter Becky Florine, and brother, Ancil Taylor.
A graveside service will be held at 9:30 AM, Monday, February 8, 2016, at Valley View Cemetery, Roxbury. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM on Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, McPherson with Rev. H. Dick Reynolds officiating.

Dan Strait, 35, the son of Mike E. Strait and Darcy J. (Swearingen) Strait, was born May 24, 1980 at Belleville, KS and passed away on January 31, 2016 at Belleville, KS.
Dan grew up and attended school in Belleville, KS, graduating from Belleville High School in 1999. He then attended Colby Community Jr. College on a wrestling scholarship. He later attended Salina Area Vo-Tech where he graduated and received a certificate in heating and air conditioning repair. For the past several years, he has worked for KDOT as an equipment operator, senior.
Dan was an avid K-State fan and enjoyed college wrestling. In recent weeks, he was assisting with the Republic County Kids Wrestling program.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kyle in 2005 and his grandfathers, Gene Strait and Glen Swearingen.
Dan is survived by his father, Mike Strait of Belleville, KS; his mother Darcy Strait of Belleville, KS; grandmothers, Janet Strait of Scandia, KS and Barbara Swearingen of Salina, KS; cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
Cremation was selected and memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Central Christian Church, Belleville, KS with Pastor Mark Imel, officiating.
Family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Friends may sign the register book from 1PM until 8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Betty “Joyce” Fitzgerald, 72, Morrowville, died February 3, 2016 at Bryan LGH in Lincoln, NE.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Ward Funeral Home, Washington. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7.
A funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Morrowville Christian Church, Morrowville.
Burial will be in the Haddam City Cemetery.

Beryle Irene (Supple) Adams was born May 9, 1919 to William W. and Sadie (Bulmer) Supple. She grew up on a farm northwest of Michigan Valley, Kansas. She remembers very well the depression and Dust Bowl day in the 1930’s. Times were tough during the depression so Beryle didn’t get to go to college. She graduated grade school in 1933 and high school in 1937.
The Supple children were involved in 4-H Club, one sister and brother being Charter members of the North Osage County 4-H Club. Beryle won several awards in sewing and livestock projects.
In 1939, Beryle went to California and while there worked for an Aunt in her professional dressmaking shop in San Francisco and later attended a Trade School in the Los Angeles area, enrolled in Telegraphy then moved back to Wichita, Kansas in 1941 where she worked for Postal Telegraph and later Cessna and Beech Aircraft Factories during WWII as well Walker Air Base near Hays, Kansas.
It was during this time she met and married Edward Somer. They made their home in Wilson, Kansas where Edward worked for his father in the hardware business. After his father’s death in 1955, Edward became sole owner and was ably assisted by his wife, Beryle. They added furniture to their line of hardware and enjoyed the pleasures of serving satisfied customers.
Edward and Beryle loved to fish and hunt and spent many happy hours in those sports. Edward died of a heart attack May 31, 1969. They had no children.
Beryle remained in the business for four more years, selling to the Woodmansee family in 1973. She became an agent for Eschbaugh Advertising in 1972 and worked in many capacities in the business for 15 years.
Beryle married Henry J. Janousek July 31, 1975. During this time he assisted her as she continued her job for Eschbaugh Advertising. She did volunteer work at the Wilson Senior Center, served on Site Council, and sewed several quilts for fund raisers for the Senior Center. Henry and Beryle enjoyed their retirement years together. He died of a heart attack on February 19, 1988.
Beryle began playing the organ at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilson in 1967 while Rev. David Irwin was Pastor. She was a member and Elder of the FPC, held many offices in the church and played the organ for over 33 years. She transferred her membership to Eastridge Presbyterian Church while living in Lincoln, Nebraska on June 3, 2001 but eventually transferred back to Wilson in 2007.
Beryle was a former member of the Friends of Reading GFWC Club, Stitch and Chat Sewing Club, and is a past Matron and Life member of Holyrood Chapter 420 Order of the Easter Star.
Beryle spent 27 years caring for her widowed sister, Lura Weddle. They shared happy times, traveled and became best friends. She died December 22, 2001.
In 2000, Beryle renewed her friendship with Dr. Charles Henry Adams, a long-time friend of the Supple family. Both having lost their spouses and having no children, they felt a need for companionship in their golden years and married December 23, 2000. They moved into and independent living facility in Lincoln, Nebraska where they enjoyed the friendly atmosphere at Legacy Terrace.
Charles was a retired Professor Emeritus in Animal Science at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. They both enjoyed sports and attended many football, basketball, and baseball game as well as several trips and University functions. After three happy years of marriage, Charles was called home December 20, 2003 to be with his loved ones who had gone before him.
Beryle is survived by eleven nieces and nephews, step-daughter, Beverly Mlynar and husband Donald of Adelphi, MD; two step-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Edward, Henry, and Charles; three sisters Corrine Supple, Lura Weddle, Hazel Hoover; brother Harold Supple and one nephew.
