Salina Police are searching for a known male suspect in a case Sunday evening where a man was stabbed twice after refusing to crawl into the trunk of his own car.

Captain Mike Sweeney said the victim, a man in 40’s, was giving another man a ride to the Howard Johnson Motel, 222 E. Diamond Drive, at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

When they stopped, the suspect asked the man to pop open the trunk of the car. He did and the suspect then displayed a gun and told the man to get into the trunk.

The victim refused to get into the trunk and began running, and fell to the ground when the suspect hit him in the head three times. When the victim fell, a knife fell out of his pocket and the suspect stabbed him in the right thigh.

The victim got up and started running again, before falling to the ground, and the suspect stabbed him the left thigh.

The victim was able to get into the lobby of the motel and ask for help. The suspect left the area on foot.

The victim was taken to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of a broken nose and stab wounds. He was kept for observation.
