Construction activity on a US-77 project in Dickinson County began Tuesday.
According to a release from the Kansas Department of Transportation, the project begins at the US-77/US-56 junction at Herington, then north to the bridge carrying the highway over the Smoky Hill River near the Footlocker warehouse just south of the I-70/US-77 Interchange.
The purpose of the project is to mill 3/4 of an inch of asphalt from the road surface, then overlay the highway with a 1.5 inch overlay sealing the highway.
As a result of this project, traffic has been reduced to one lane of travel as directed by a pilot car.
Drivers are advised to expect to stop when approaching the work zone and wait for the pilot car to guide them through the construction.
Hall Brothers Inc. of Marysville is the prime contractor. Total cost of the project is $2,935,023.98
